- As a beginner, you should aim at having a good teams of 5 Scoundrels (credits + level droids events), 5 Jedi (Yoda), 5 Rebels (Lots of events, Palpatine) as soon as you can. Some toons are both Rebel and Scoundrel (Han's, Lando), so really useful. Droids also appear somewhat frequently in Events.
There's no way a beginner should be concerned with getting Yoda—he's a third-rate character who sucks on defence and who requires the extremely inefficient farming of fourth-rate Jedi in order to acquire.
Agreed, but very iconic he is.
Also, the Yoda event keeps coming back regularly now, there's no particular hurry even if you want him. He's a decent toon and fun to play (but indeed doesn't do well on an Arena team because AI can't play him).
Real beginners should probably focus on getting 5 Scoundrels and enough attackers / support / tanks to regularly clear the challenges at the highest available tier. And Rebels, although that might be just today's trendy faction. But don't stick too long with the guys you receive at the start (Talia, Jedi Consular, Clone Sarge, Snowtrooper,...): they're all quite useless once you start to get an actual choice.
