Your ally has to have used him as leader in light side battles the last time he did light side battles for you have the option of using him in light side battles.
You can go into the new player section of the forum and there is a thread where people lendnout their Kenobi so if you tried there.
I don't know what your roster is but Jedi are not the best option for a ls squad. Perhaps this is holding you back here.
