Lots of g12 teams can beat r4 teams. Depends on the match up.
Usually needs to be the player controlling the g12 team though. But if no one is controlling either, then the ai will often win, especially if the player leaves the enemy leader targeted before hitting auto.
If you want the ai to actually run the battle for you, you need to make sure you have no target selected. Then it will make the same decisions for your team as their team, target wise. If you leave the enemy leader targeted, then it doesn't get to choose targets. When the leader dies it moves on to whoever is in the second slot and so on. If you have no target selected, then it will decide who to attack each turn, usually the enemy easiest to kill ie lowest h+p.
