No, character packs aren't worth the money. Even worse are character packs with 1199 crystals, the Rogue One pack especially is a real rip off. Buying crystals for energy refreshes or buying purple gear for 300 or 1400 in shipments is totally ok and worth a lot more than packs. You can farm droids really easily enough, but why would you even do that at this stage?
Keep going with LS/DS battles as you can 3* them, you need them for farming gear. It also makes sense to farm RG, you will eventually need him for potency mod challenge (and he is a good all around tank with reliable stun and auto taunt).
