I got all four of them to 7*, tier XIII, no Zetas and abilities are only level 7 - but feel kind of reluctant to pour more resources into upgrading them further (those omegas are hard to come by). ...

How do you hoard Omegas?
How many Omegas do you accumulate a month? 50? 70? Whatever the number is, it is greater than the number of omegas needed for new characters each month. Maybe one character a month on average, which is going to be 30-40 omegas?
Over time, once you have maxxed abilities on old character, you income is just greater than expenses on omegas.
