When does Red Guard (RG) become viable?

I currently have him @ 3* and I'm about 20 shards from 4*. I'm also in the process of getting him to LVL 70 and LVL 8 Gear.

I ask, because I saw a 2* in Arena (top 150) the other day and was very surprised to see a 2* in such a good rank (DEC 2015) server.

Thoughts?

    Also does increasing his special do anything. It looks like it just increases the turn meter gain a few % but not the chance of the effect. So an extra 10% meter every 4 battles doesn't seem worth it either.

    I'm about to start using him in arena and have him at 5-3-7. Is there really a benefit past there?


    His third skill is very useful, RG gain 15% turn meter and 4% health everytime that an allie is damaged, so he can gain a lot of turn meter and can be faster than Poe Dameron, for example, sometimes I stun Poe with RG before the taunt of Poe, and if you have Luminara and you heal RG and the taunt is finished before he die, he will continue gaining turn meter and health and the taunt will be activated automatically again. Luminara is very useful to get the rank, to defend the rank is better an attacker non jedi.

    It's true that the first skill is enough with level 5, but sometimes these 2 levels are essential to kill an enemy if RG is the assist of IG-86, GS or QGJ, but to begin to use RG is enough with 5-2-2, then the best is improve to 5-3-7 and then 7-3-7 and 7-5-7.

    In the level 8 RG will gain +15% damage and cooldown -1 in the first 2 skills, so would be interesting, if you use Luminara to heal RG maybe you can use 2 times the defense up before he die, so I will increase all skills to 7-7-7, always is good have the Arena team with full skills.

  • I have some more testing to do, but I finally got him to 4* and gear level 8, and thus far, I still prefer Poe. Like I said, I got some more testing to do, but I'm a tad disappointed.

    I just tried out this team, as shown by ubn87, and it works well.

    Team comp is: Poggle, IG86, GS, RG, lumi. - Lumi is pretty nice, because she can keep RG alive longer, and she's still a heck of an attacker.
  • The last night I used Poggle (L), GS, IG-86, Kylo and Poe, without RG, and I lost only 10 positions, to 11th, with Royal Guard I lost 15 or 20 positions.

    But to get the rank is better with Royal Guard, I can stun Poe or Han with RG and then is easy win a team with Poe or Han. For example, today I stunned 2 times Poe and Han in the same battle and when Poe taunt the rest of the team is dead LOL RG is very nice against teams with Poe or Han, playing with Poe and RG in the same team, with Poggle as leader, GS and IG-86.

    Also I got the 7 stars in resistance pilot today, my skills are 7-5-4, I need improve it and get some gears of the gear 8, and then I will start to use Resistance Pilot, depending of the team is more interesting use RG or Poe, if the enemy have Poe always is better have Poe, and sometimes Poe and RG in the same team, but if the enemy don't have a taunt, then it's nice play with RG, without Poe, and 4 good attackers, or 3 attackers and Poggle.

    To defend the rank I think that Poe is still better than a RG of 4 or 5 stars, because a team with Poggle (L), GS, IG-86, Poe and IG-88 can kill easy a team with Poggle (L), GS, IG-86, Kylo and RG, with the turn meter reduction of Poe IG-88 and IG-86 will play before my characters, easy to win, but if I have Poe a droid team have more chance to be defeated.

    So I think that Poe is better to defend the rank, but RG is better to get the rank if the enemy don't have Poe.
  • 5* Gear 8. More HP with higher star would be better to allow longer tank and more importantly IMO, stun when RG's HP is above 50%. But at 5* / G8, he has 15K hp which is already decent to taunt a turn or two.
