Why did the game never progress beyond lvl 85 ?

HiI was just wondering today that the lvl progression stopped at lvl 85. I am not unhappy about this, given that the curve of leveling up sees exponential growth of credit and xp requirements. I am just wondering, because lvl 85 is such an odd number.Did the devs ever comment on that ?

At one point in the game it was 50 max level, it went up slowly to its current 85 and then they decided adding Relic levels made more money (instead of gear levels). So now every 6 months or so we will get a new relic level which is increasingly more expensive to get to.
