zMaul in arena

I am in a relatively new shard (March 2018) with mostly Palp, Bastilla teams. Some Titans, JTR, Troopers and NS teams make it to the top 20 as well.

I was chasing the Palp meta, am tired of all those mirror matches and getting crushed by teams with 30k less GP and now do not feel like chasing the next Bastilla meta but rather am looking for an alternative that may hold a decent rank in arena while not being too prone to those meta shifts happening every once in a while.

Titans, JTR or Rex team may fill that spot too, but what about zMaul?

So, to all the zMaul users out there:
- Is zMaul still a viable option for arena?
- What is the ideal team for a zMaul lead?
  • Zmaul is hard countered by r2. So anyone who wants to defeat you, will need only to swap in an r2 to do that. Any pretty much every single player has r2.

Also, the palp meta easily defeats zmaul teams too, because no matter if youre stealthed or not, palp+dv+tarkin+sion+dn all have aoes.
  • look, zaul is still viable and can actually give you some stuff. but if you are on a newer shard, i wouldnt zeta maul.
if you do have zeta maul, fine, you can use and have the inital TM and stuff like that. even team of Zaul+nest when you "force" the other team to attack nest frequently can work great... but if you dont have zeta maul, save the zeta, its not valuable as it used to be, and you can have cheaper temporary solutions in arena until you zeta the next upcoming meta (which we dont know who)
so i wouldnt zeta him personally, just save the 20 mats.
  • I'm in a March 18 shard as well and I chose Maul for my first zeta and I've been running him as leader now for a while. I average 1.44 in arena and overnight I drop to about 6-11th. He is a blast to play and you can sub a bunch of different sith in for enjoyment. Sure, there are hard counters for him but what team doesn't have a hard counter? If you would like to see how I'm running him feel free to check them out. All I'm interested in playing is sith only in case it wasn't obvious. lol

I run him with DV, zzDN, zSion, SA. I sub in EP and zSavage often to keep people off guard. But Sith Assassin is the real mvp on the team, she is outstanding.

  • @Crazygone510 what exactly makes SA so valuable for a zMaul lead? And why do you use DV over Palp?
OH, and how does it perform VS bastila lead?

SA speeds the entire team up with her dark cloak ability. Her stealth synergy compliments the ZMaul lead at its fullest.

I personally like using DV because of his speed and his basic being un evadable. His ability block comes in handy as well. He is a slight liability on defense though because he always starts with his AOE.

Bastila teams will beat you, but it's not because of your team but rather because the AI is horrible. On offense, you won't have any problems beating a Bastila team as long as you have speed and Potency which the ZMaul lead and SA will provide plenty of.

But like I said, I sub in all the other Sith all the time to keep things fresh and enjoyable. Zavage is a blast to use when paired with SA and SiT. Nothing better than using overpowered on a toon that has full protection up.

@2:56 you'll see SA's dark cloak ability at work. Pay attention to the TM bars of my sith and that's the reason I use her. Get her speed way up there and your team will run circles around everyone especially in a younger shard like ours.

  • Valuable info! Thanks @Crazygone510
I have however decided to keep the zeta mats for now and see what the near future will bring :)
