I'm not sure what is happening in your first example, if you provide full team compositions and which battle this occurred in the team can double check.
For your second example, I believe this is working as intended. General Kalani's leadership ability means that B2 droids can't lose more than 1 stack of battalion per turn, and B1 can't lose more than 8 per turn, regardless of the number of times they are attacked in a turn.
