Screensize Issues

I don't know if this is a Bug yet, but I do think it should be fixed.  My neighborhood screen is extremely tiny.  Then when I open a house, the bottom ui bar is too small.  My Mother wants to play this game, but she has problems with her vision.  In this modern age, I shouldn't need to play the card, but as a person with a disability I am aware that she has a right to play the games she bought, regardless of her abilities.

Below I included photos taken of my PC screen when the game was running.  Oh, and the Alt, Enter key combination does nothing except to open up Windowed mode.  And for the record, I had this problem before I ever installed Custom Content or Mods.

  • c949aa7021c0d36b  Please patch the game (the update dropped after you posted) and test again.  Use alt-enter to cycle through the various resolutions and see whether one works for you and your mother.  The patch addressed some issues with resolution and scaling, particularly on monitors with a 1920x1080 resolution, so you may have better results now.

I don't have a disability in vision but I agree: The UI ist way to small. After a short time, my eyes are strained and I find myself constantly leaning closer to the monitor. Today's patch did ... nothing. Alt + Enter still toggles between windowed and full mode. I can't change the resolution. Is there another trick like ... edit a file somewhere? It's too late to refund and I don't want to actually but I want to play Sims 1 again without stressing my eyes and myself over time.

  • LadyFu83  The only current workaround is to lower the resolution of your monitor.  That's not ideal, but if you're someone who plays a game for a long time and doesn't cycle through other apps, it's a reasonable interim workaround while you wait for a proper fix.

  • Nope, trying the game after the new patch shows no changes.  The Alt, Enter combination does nothing except switching between windowed and full screen mode.  And the UI is still to the same scale it ever was.  I hope whoever is in charge of this at EA really puts it as a priority, because it really needs work.  True, I can change my PC's resolution, but that messes up my shortcut icons, and changes how other programs work.  If you could add the settings to the game, it would benefit everybody!!!

I  was hopeful to see it addressed in patch #2 however it wasn't.

I can confirm that running The Sims 1 Legacy Collection on a native 1080p desktop still renders the UI far too small, especially when compared to other desktop resolutions. This is not an issue on desktop resolutions smaller or larger than 1080p, where the UI is automatically scaled up to make it appropriately readable.

Can this please be investigated by the devs? It makes the game nearly impossible to play due to the UI being so small.

  • sambonz describet it perfectly ... my resolution is 1920x1080p, too. So maybe this is the issue. Please, investigate, find a solution and fix the UI scaling. I can't do "change resolution just to play" workaround on a computer I use for many other things. It's not worth it.

  • The recent Patch mentioned an alternative way to change this.  Specificallly it said:

    • The game by default adopts the aspect ratio of the monitor it is run on. The aspect ratio can now be specified with the launch option “-maxaspect:<width>:<height>”. Examples: -maxaspect:16:9, -maxaspect:4:3 or bespoke ones like -maxaspect:16:10
      • Note that the option will only set the aspect of height to width. It will only restrict the maximum width - it can not increase it
      • In windowed mode the window will run at the aspect ratio; at fullscreen black bars will fill the unused space of the monitor
      • This will mostly be useful in situations where your monitor (virtual or real) is very wide, but you want the game to be a more traditional aspect ratio
      • Note that there are limitations on how extreme a ratio this will accept

Thing is, I am not that computer literate.  Can someone explain what this means and how to try opening the game with a different "maxaspect."  I don't see any additional options on the game's screen.  That would be the best place to put it, if it is possible.
