For me, the different look at 1080p seems more correct, and is the change I believe they made for the new release. If I fire up the original game on an older computer, it’d look a lot more like the “blurry version”.
However, I won’t claim to know for sure. The inconsistencies in how the new release presents the UI based on different screen sizes and resolutions, the Alt + Enter windowed views, etc, has caused quite a bit of confusion for everyone. I’d like EA to clarify specifically what changes they made, what is intended and what is not.
At least on a 27 in or larger screen, at 1080p the UI, text and buttons in the new release now seem an appropriate size to me, and the text is legible. At any other resolution, the UI size and scale feels like it reverts to something made for very small screens, which is then blown up on a large monitor like I’m looking at it through a magnifier.
That said, I do understand how the ‘smaller’ UI at 1080p would be difficult on screens physically smaller than 27 in, such as on laptops. On those screens the blown up UI would probably be better. I feel like this should have been an option you could set for your preference. This all sadly feels like it hasn’t been tested thoroughly enough before release.
