Sims 1 not opening after installation

Hi all,

I bought the Sims Legacy Collections (Birthday Bundle). i proceeded to install Sims 1. But when i double click on it in order for the game to open so i can start playing, the game refuses to launch. I get a black screen for a few seconds and then my desktop screen returns.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated as I really want to play the original Sims again.

P.S. i bought the bundle through steam.
