Could You Wayback the Exchange?

Has anyone tried? I was just thinking about it today because I heard an unusual sounding name and lightbulb moment was like "Hey! I downloaded a sim named that in like 2006! I loved that sim!" and then I was sad because the Exchange has been gone for a few years now and I'm at least two new computers and several CC-wipes from that point. I was wondering, if you were to go to the Exchange via the Wayback Machine if you'd be able to download from it. I'd love to just dedicate a weekend to clicking download repeatedly and just nab as much as I could off there.

I poked around a bit and if you go too far recent it redirects here, and too far back I found just a blank page that said TEST :D So I will do a little more digging when I get home but I wanted to check here first and see if anyone has already tried and if I should save my breath.

  • I have never tried. I would guess though that the download links no longer work. Look at Paladin's Place, it was still up and running when UC came out, but have since shut down. Even though you can go to the site through Wayback, most of the download links no longer function. Those links need to be maintained or they vanish, and considering EA was responsible for where all of that stuff was stored, I would say they threw it all out when they shut down the site. I don't see it being maintained. They don't even maintain a place to get their own store or Maxis made stuff.
  • I've been able to nab some EAxis store content (not through the Wayback though, some brilliant people managed to archive it and it's pretty easy to find) but I'd love to be able to get the content that was available on the Exchange back then. Sadly, I think it's lost forever unless some individuals were able to archive anything.

Not sure what sim exactly you are looking for, but maybe the person has shared it somewhere else besides the exchange?

I'm looking for everything that has ever been uploaded to the exchange :p I think I might be out of luck

Some guy probably has it all on a hard drive somewhere.

    I'd pay for that.
