I would like to provide several details in case they are helpful. This is from my experience as well as from what I've gathered talking to some players.
I can see The Sims 2 in EA App. It shows up as just The Sims 2 and the game tile says The Sims 2 Double Deluxe. The download button does not work, it starts loading the download confirmation window (where you select the installation location and the language), and then throws an error that says: There's a problem with your download. Something went wrong with your download. Give us a few minutes, then try again. This same error has been showing up ever since TS2 showed up in EA App.
The Sims 2 Spinoffs (The Sims Life Stories, The Sims Pet Stories and The Sims Castaway Stories) have also shown up, even before TS2, but they downloaded without issues. As they use legacy installers, I was offered a download link (which expired after a few hours) to use in the browser instead of directly downloading in EA App. After they finished downloading, I had ZIP files with installers in them.
At least one player was able to download something when clicking on the Sims 2 in EA App, but it was The Sims 2 Store Edition; they also got a download link (that expired after a few hours). So even though their download button worked, it did not download the game that should have been there.
I have a theory that I am unable to download anything because I don't own Store Edition while EA App is trying to download just that. Whoever works on this, they should check that The Sims 2 game tile (in the players' libraries) is connected to the actual The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, as it should just be able to download normally, just like Sims 3 or 4.
If I find anything else, I'll update this post, but so far this is what I have been able to gather.

ooh sorta of getting excited now- so i currently have sims 2 store edition on my origin. So if that transfers over i may be able to download sims 2 ultimate collection?
- mate543 years agoHero+@Sunflowergal227 I wouldn't get too excited. In order for The Sims 2 to even show up in EA App (whatever it might be under the hood), you need to own Ultimate Collection on Origin.

You know, not that i can complain or anything but like why not just upgrade the store edition and the ultimate collection? I don't even have it on origin but i have the store edition, and i saw the promotion going on but then it was too late.... So basically my store edition would transfer hopefully?
- mate543 years agoHero+@Sunflowergal227 I find that unlikely as even Store Edition owners, for whatever reason, were originally not eligible to automatically get Ultimate Collection.
It would be nice, but also unlikely from EA. They don't even have new codes for Ultimate Collection and no one has been able to register it since 2018. - Sunflowergal2273 years agoHero (Retired)
i know. doesn't help that i did take a break from origin because at one point it was crashing my computer. Doesn't really do that now, i mean does slow it down a little if sims 4 needs an update but..
Honestly, i think they should try to upgrade those who have the store edition, i mean if you are updating a whole new entire app anyways, why not? maybe that's just my opinion. Also know this is an EA forum, but like even some old games don't really work on windows 10- like 2000's titles well the sims, oh and quidditch world cup of Harry Potter (2007 i think!) . (and even that- with the success of TS2, TS3, and TS4, people may want to play other old sim games. ) Lots of titles should be rereleased so that others could play them! I would love to play quidditch world cup again! Even if some are for nostagia purposes.
