Re: The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection won't launch properly

@RagingPete97 , there are several things you need to do to get Sims 2 to run on newer versions of Windows OS. First, you need to edit your Graphics Rule.sgr with Graphics Rule Maker to insure that Sims 2 recognizes your newer graphics card. Next, you may need to edit it to get rid of the Direct X error or to display your game in a larger screen size. I recommend reading the threads sticked at the top of this forum.

One other thing to try is to move (not copy or shortcut) your Sims 2 Folder (Found Documents > EA Games > Sims 2) to your Desktop and starting the game again. Please remember that none of your saves or Mods/CC will be present in the game if you do this, but this will insure that you have a Vanilla version of the game to at least get it working.

@Tremayne4260 Thanks for replying. I tried all of that. Downloaded Graphic Rule Maker and then edited the .sgr file. The only difference now is that my desktop is in the proper 1440p resolution after launching TS2 from origin. It still won't work. I press play on TS2 and then it just sends me to my desktop. I can see the TS2 icon in the taskbar of my screen as if the program is running but it doesnt show anything, its just blank when I hover my cursor over it. I'm also not able to click on anything in my desktop while TS2 is running. So the only way to get out of this situation is opening task manager with my keyboard and signing out to reset everything.

@RagingPete97 , have to tried to delete the Accessory.cache and the Group.cache files found in the Documents folder? This appeared to solve one player's problem about getting the game to start. Just trying to think of different things to try.

@Tremayne4260 I cant find those files where they should be. They dont exist for me. I'm just downloading the game from the internet now to see if it works that way. Maybe the issue is with Origin launcher.

@Tremayne4260 Nevermind about downloading it from the internet. Doesnt work still. Its not Origin. I've tried pretty much everything. This is so weird. All the other issues I see people have online are that the game crashes while in game or that theres weird stuff going on with the graphics. Mine doesnt even launch. I mean the program does run but it doesnt show me anything, i just see my desktop. This is so annoying

To anyone experiencing this issue, I have found a solution!!! After trying so many different things, this solution works. I have been trying to run this game on my newer 2018 gaming PC which has a ryzen 5 2600 and rx580 gpu. The game wouldnt launch at all. No error message or anything (Btw, if you get the DirectX 9c error message, this solution will work for you too). The solution was launching the game in windowed mode. You can do this by right-clicking on the sims 2 in your Origin Library and then selecting Game properties. Then go to the Advanced tab and type in -w in order to make the game launch in windowed mode. Then apply the changes. Once you click play, it might take a while, but the game will launch in a small square window. Dont worry, once you get into a neighborhood, you should be able to change the resolution to your display's resolution and it will enlarge the window to fill just about your whole screen. If you are having issues with seeing the right resolution in the game options, you should google graphic rules.sgr for info on how to fix that. You just have to go into the graphics rule file of the sims 2 and hard-code the resolutions in the right places. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

  • Hello, this information would be helpful, but i don't have it in an origin folder or app. i have the DVD for it, is there another way to fix it?
