Custom Neighbourhood corrupt help

In january I started having issues with the Sims 2 Legacy crashing for no apparent reason.  It was fine on a Wednesday and then not on Thursday.  There was no new custom content downloaded and I have reviewed that as a  possible issue. It is not.

When I go to play in a lot/family, four bars will load and then it crashed. no error message. Just stops. Of course, this is the main and only neighbourhood I have been playing in. I spent months building it up.

I have figured out that it is only an issue in the one custom neighbourhood. I tried the hood checker, it didn't fix anything.

Any suggestions as to how to investigate and fix?

  • I'm guessing you didn't back up the neighborhood before you started playing?

The neighborhood loads, but none of the lots? Or is it only lots with families that won't? Do empty lots load? Do any of the family lots at all load?

Have you ever used Simpe? FFS Lot Debugger? If this were my neighborhood, if I wasn't just replacing it with my backup anyway, I would open it up in Simpe and start looking at the families. It's likely something is corrupted there. Sometimes you can locate the problem and fix it, sometimes you just have to delete the Sims (which comes with a whole host of prep and cleanup work if you want to avoid new problems).

You guessed wrong. Of course there was backup.

None of the lots were working. It would load to 3 bars and then crash with no warning.

You can only use the debugger if you can get into the lot. Which, i couldn't do. However, I finally got someone from EA to kind of help me. The following helped

    1. Please search CMD after pressing the Windows key. Once that is done, Right click on CMD and click on "Run as Administrator"
    2. When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter.
    3. Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
    4. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
    5. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
    6. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
    7. Reboot your computer.

This fixed access to most of the lots, but not all. I think I will just have to delete those families and start from scratch.

However, the game is crashing, with no error message, if i play it for more than an hour.

Odd that fixed it at all. I assumed you didn't have a backup because you were trying to save the neighborhood rather than going back to a backup. Or is the backup also messed up? Are you using Simpe, batbox, and hood checker to delete?

Sims 2 does often have a crashing problem. Usually about the 1 hour mark. Always has for some reason. Save frequently and quit around the hour mark. Delete all the cache files, then start up again.

That said, my game hasn't crashed or had any issues in a very long time. But I think it's because I'm so meticulous, bordering on obsessive. I put in cleaned neighborhoods, or made them where I had to. Then spent months cleaning up everything even more. Used Simpe, batbox, and hood checker to delete all duplicate NPCs and townies. Deleted all but a few strays. Deleted all their character files. Fixed memories and connections and ancestors and other random things that the clean neighborhood creators hadn't. Then when it was all perfect made two backups. I frequently use the batbox to keep things cleaned up and I go into Simpe regularly to delete clutter memories that it doesn't get. First sign of trouble I can't easily fix, because the game does randomly glitch, and I go back to my backup.

  • SAME! worked fine for months after i upgraded to windows 11. Win10 had tons of crashes but Windows 11 worked right off the bat. but then one day an EA update happened and couldn't play anymore, it would just shut off during loading screen without any error message. so last night I did a "manage -> repair files" from the EA app. then of course the usual: delete cache files & also deleted all the thumbnail folders. I CAN NOW PLAY AGAIN! Never had to delete thumbnail folders before, only the cache files but i saw people mentioned that in the past. took a while to load but not that bad. I have 13GB of mods & CC, and my main hood is ALL beach lots. I hope this works for you! (repair files, delete cache files, delete thumbnail folders). try not to have anything else running (I had YT up and it took longer).

I rarely think to mention it when I tell people to delete the cache files, but mentally I include thumbnails in that. I don't know what Sims 2's issue with cache is, but it seems to get corrupted and muck up the game if not regularly deleted.
