Sims 2 Crashes during playing it?

So I noticed after a creating my sim family the game had crashed to the loading screen. It scared me that I could've lost my family I had just created to only find them in the tray. But now that I keep playing it. It feels like I play it for about twenty-minutes then it just says Application has crashed. Application will now terminate. Oh and after it crashes setting go back to default instead of staying. I don't understand why it keeps crashing?

Update: It now has started crashing after me being with my family at 2 minutes and twenty four seconds.
