Sims 2 Crashing when clicking neighbourhood

Hi, I've seen a lot of discussion about crashing when playing but I can't get any further than the neighbourhood screen. As soon as I pick a neighbourhood, it says "crashed, this application will now terminate". It means any fixes about changing settings I can't do because I can't get that far. Sims 1 is working fine, but Sims 2 not at all.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't even know how to include diagnostics. I am not computer savvy. None of the patches have helped at all.

    Hey appletoothpaste,

Is this happening in a neighborhood that was created after today's patch?

You'll need to move or delete the Neighborhoods file in Documents -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 and a new Neighborhoods file will generate when you launch the game again.

If so, could you provide an EA Error Report ID and DxDiag for tracking purposes?

  • I had the The Sims 2 Legacy Direct3D Error but now I am having this problem. It crash just like the Legacy Direct3D Error.  I am having “The application has crashed. The application will now terminate” when I click any family. I tried all the new Neighborhoods and every household has the same problem. As soon as I click on the family it end up closing the entire game with this crash.

I don't have EA Error Report Id but I have the DxDiag.

I removed the entire game and I installed it just right now.  1PM, Pacific Time. 2/6/25.  I am having the same issue. The game crashes as soon as I start a new family to play.

I have the game on Steam.

  • I have never once been able to play Sims 2, patch or no patch.

It's not a neighbourhood I created, it's trying to access any neighbourhood at all. I load the game, click on literally any neighbourhood in the choices and then it terminates.

Provided a DxDiag above. I can't provide any EA Error report - it just opens a webpage when i type in that file. When I go through my program files myself, there is NO EA FOLDER. Is this because I am on steam. I am finding this all to be exceptionally difficult.

    Thanks dylanwalsh3

Can you try generating a brand new neighborhood file please and let me know if this persists?
