Well, I also figured out a way to save the game when this glitch happens:
- Use Alt+Enter for windowed mode. This unblocks some keys (notably F keys for listing through the menu) but the designer window still seems to be opened somewhere off-screen, in a top layer, so you can't actually click anywhere. But now you can...
- Use Alt+F4 to close the game. A new UI window appears, asking you if you want to save. It's clickable because it apparently renders in a higher layer than the designer window.
- Click Yes, it saves the game and exits application.
- Launch the game again, go to the lot – it's ready for you, with designer window closed. You haven't lost anything but your time and patience with this bug.
The best solution would still be for EA to fix the bug, though.
