Sims 2 Super Collection - Differences + Any Essential Mods?

I'm downloading Sims 2 Super Collection right now (which has been a masochistic exercise since every time my Internet connection goes out, which happens all the time in rural Scotland, it restarts the download from scratch, but 12 hours later I'm still not giving up), and I'm wondering: what differences will I notice? Does the game look any different from the old regular Sims 2 on the Mac? It says on the App Store that it's got several enhancements exclusively for Mac but I don't really understand what that'll mean in my game:

- Native resolution support, including 4K and Retina
- Drastically improved performance, thanks to an all new renderer

Also, my old beloved Sims 2 game gradually nuked itself after about 5 years because we had corrupted the poor soul out of that game without realising it. Now I'm wiser and have seen this guide for avoiding corruption, but I'm wondering whether there are any mods that really help with preventing corruption.

I think you will love that hood because there is a central area where I was placing city hall deco and Bridgeport skyscrapers around it along with lots that are usable. I made little parks and separated the areas so that they had different themes then I moved over to the little beach area and added the 2 beach houses Rflong7 made for me but no matter what I have done since I cannot get any other beach lots to fit on that area except for one a beach camp site..

found on the following link should you also want to use it Sandy Beaches Camp although I cannot remember if it has any CC however as I don't mind a little CC I would have downloaded it anyway..

I understand re the OCD I am sure I am this way and you mentioning 3 sent shock waves into me as I have all that to do again as well however prior to this upgrade everything was backed up and notes and links saved to everything I was using in both series so when I do start over each world has what lots I used in every address on the map so all I will have to do is add it back :)

same with 2 but I had to sort out all the terrain stuff i like first and my CC is a mess so that is going to take me days to go through before I add it back but I don't mind too much because when its finished I relish the game play that's going to begin-)

I was about to start today back in that map but now clean installer is playing up and causing me problems and I cannot move forward without it being fixed. Every time I think I have something resolved and can begin my game something else is going wrong >:)

Thanks for the link and I'm glad you finally got clean installer fixed. My game won't start at all now so I've uninstalled everything. Trying again, but it's very frustrating - I just wanna get in there!!

Wont start why whats going on?

when i very first started playing often sims 2 would not start up and I got an error code however after a while I discovered that by going into Origin my games and clicking on sims 2 update it solved that problem every time.

    Have you tried that?

  • You guys are inspiring me to design some of my own neighbourhoods! I love doing that in sims 2. :) All this Sims 2 talk has inspired my sister to start playing Sims 2 again too! :D

@Terra your excitement is so infectious! I just can't wait to start playing :) I just hope the game is going to behave, as I started it up to test a few things and sometimes it starts fine and then other times it fails and gives me random error messages.

Awww thanks! :) The past two days I haven't been playing but after all this talk I'm definitely going to play again tomorrow! I hope you don't keep getting so many error messages, though.

Is there a particular theme you guys are going for in the neighbourhoods you're designing this time around? I used to do lots of themed ones for TS2, like Japanese villages for example. I've seen there's tons of medieval CC as well so one day I might have to try my hand at one of those! Where do you go for getting lots, now that the Exchange is gone? (Sorry if you mentioned this before!)

I updated it, but it hasn't made any difference. I am making a new thread about it so as not to go off topic.
  • @elanorbreton

I am not expert but will help in any way I can as I understand the frustration I will look out for your new thread :)

    @Terra

I am glad you are inspired that's what it is all about and when I first started another more seasoned player was posting pics of everything they were doing in game and it set me off and I have not stopped since-)

I love modern or fantasy styles I am afraid medieval reminds me of the words of the writer in Once upon a time TV show who said something like why would I want to live in snow whites world full of bad water and dysentery or words to that effect lol I tend to agree does nothing for me either :)

I have still used medieval sites from time to time especially for new harvestable plants I can use in game on the following link, you may have to search around a little to find everything

nixed sims does a lot of medieval stuff and loads startrek stuff i ignore lol

harvest crates and so much more

Farmers' Set (With harvestable crops, electric fence & social scarecrow

this site has tons of info on everything

    community fruit and veg garden

Lots are much more difficult to find depending on your style and whether you want no CC or if it does not matter

    For example

I like Starbucks, McDonald,s, Baskins ice cream and pizza hut etc in my worlds and they come with some serious cc from the creators to make them look good but then I temper that with looking on mod the sims 2 for no cc houses as modern as I can get

Rflong7 makes houses for 2 and shared them on the following link

    http://forums.thesims.com/en_Us/discussion/873012/sharing-my-ts2-lots-up-to-18/p1

it just depends what you are looking for I will risk cc if its something I really want and then try and look for other things CC free

also there is a great sims 2 you tube player called The jessa channel she does lets play videos which includes all the mods and ideas for all the things I have talked about before such as legal careers with involving a courthouse, prison services and police/fire etc tons of new ideas to try..

One thing I love about 2 is all these things can be achieved with a little work and the outcome is usually satisfying but when trying it with 3 it rarely works lol
  • Ahahahha I had to laugh out loud about what you said about living in the Middle Ages as I am currently getting a degree in Medieval History. :D So I do love playing medieval Sims hahahah though I go to TSM for that mostly, of course.

Thanks for all those links, lots of cool stuff to check out.

It's funny, I've been playing TS2 since 2007 and there's still so much I haven't even done with the official content, let alone all of this cool CC people make!
  • @Terra

LOL trust me to put my foot in it :)

I am not saying its not interesting but I like to view it only from a fantasy point of view where people have clean clothes, still look washed and have a cheesy white smile, you know the version Hollywood likes us to believe as the reality is just too awful.

  • Hey where do you buy cats/ dogs/ wombats from - I cannot seem to find a store in the sims 2 super collection please tell me where and what store you can buy from I have looked at downtown and blue water. Thanks

There should be 2 in the Lots & Houses Bin in your Neighborhood screen. You can place one in town from there.
