Ultimate Collection was given for free. Not all fans of the game had the opportunity to download it for free, but they have the full collection on CDs that they bought. If anyone deserved a free game, it would be those fans of the game who have the full collection on CDs because they already purchased the game, but after so many years, it's impossible to prove the purchase.
I have the full collection of the game on CDs, I bought them when the game was still supported and expansions and accessories were being released for it. I didn't have the opportunity to download the Ultimate Collection for free, and I'm not complaining about having to buy the game again, even though I spent a lot more on it back then than it costs now.
If you don't want to buy it, just don't, and just play the Ultimate Collection you got for free, installing all those patches and fixes to make the game work on new computers.
