Did the uninstall-reinstall thing, from the disk, DVD edition ($49.99 from a retailer that is actually still with us...). Launched directly from installation completion, graphics resolution 800x600 - the only option. Played a while, saved, and exited. Tried to launch it again, and the same 'unspecified error' message. What's the first thing to attack?
