I had the same experience making a genie for my buddy! In CAS he looked like he had a grey-blue color added to whatever skin tone I gave him, so I used the orange skin tone to give him a "natural" skin color... only to have him be orange in game. Since it happened to you too, I guess it's a genie thing.
I had purposely chosen a lighter shade of orange (really liked it!) & it obviously is much different in game. Quite the surprise, I must say.
A few SimFriends have mentioned this happening to them with occult sims, too... especially vampires and genies.
Ah well. The color is starting to grow on me a little bit which is a good thing as I can't do anything about it lol
