puzzlezaddict I downloaded the software you mentioned.
It was an interesting experience. I had to join the site. They offered me a slow download for free or I could have a 3 day free trial that required me to enter my credit card details. So I went for the free slow download. I don't know how long the download took, but nothing seemed to happen so I had a look at my downloads folder and it was there. So it must be a smallish file. Both files were in the zip folder I downloaded.
Another thing I needed to do was download a new .dll file an put it into Windows\SySWoW64 folder. That dll is a 32 bit version of the same dll that is already in the Windows folder.
I did all of this downloading very cautiously and did 2 virus checks using Norton. It assured me, twice, that my computer is not infected.
It is late here now so I'm turning off for the night soon.
Yesterday I was playing my Perfect Genetics main household. It is overstuffed, and I have a massive amount of mods and custom content so I am pushing my computer beyond what is reasonable.
I found it impossible to continue playing with it as it was.
I notice the nhd files for the problem worlds is generally over 250,000. I think I need to manage the worlds by keeping it below 200,000.
This Main Household lives in Lucky Palms. I sent the two oldest teens and their grandmother, Cindy, to Mountain Lake which is a player made world (by Rflong7) and I have moved extra sims there from Generation 1. Some of them have had children that I wanted to age up to Young Adult.
I planned to stop in Mountain Lake and pick up the teens I wanted from that world and take them to a new world I've recently added to the game. It is Alyrne Valley by texansky . I have numerous households there including an overstuffed household that I moved from Lucky Palms a few weeks ago. Last time I played in that world I could not play in that house as it crashed the game. It's got about 10 sims in it. Most of them are teens.
Yesterday, my 3 travelling sims (Cindy and 2 teens) arrived in Mountain Lake and I placed them into the first household with teens I wanted to move out of Mountain Lake. I had planned to move around that world and stay in various households gathering sims I wanted to move out to Alyrne Valley. Well, we were in that first house for a few minutes when the game crashed. That house has a lot of stuff in it but only 7 sims. I was moving 4 of them out.
Yesterday, after the crash I reloaded. Cindy and her two teen companions were in the base camp I'd placed in that world. I went into edit town and merged the house that had crashed the game and the base camp and moved the four teens from that house intot the Base Camp with Cindy and CO. The group now has 7 sims in it, Six of them are teens.
The group of Cindy and 6 teens then travelled successfully to Alyrne Valley and stayed in the Base Camp I had placed there. I saved. I enlarged a house I had placed from my library. It is one of the EA made houses that came with the game. I gave it a basement so all sims in the group could have a bedroom. I saved.
Today I added the files you mentioned and relaunched. It took about 15 minutes to load. It was probably afaster than usual. I don't usually time the load times. I don't often launch Alyrne Valley. If it had been Lucky Palms, well, I tend to walk away from the computer as it takes a really long time. Maybe half and hour or more.
I do like to push my luck. I opened the game with Cindy and her 6 teens in their new house in Alyrne Valley. I went into Edit Town and merged the new household with the one that has been crashing the game whenever I activated it. I moved one of the teens I had just sent to the world to that other overstuffed house. It had about 10 sims in it, maybe 12. The sim I just moved into that house sat and quietly read 2 books before I decided to go into Edit Town and merge her back with her fellow travellers. Then I saved without a problem. So things are much better. I will still have to try to be careful but knowing me I'll find a way to break it eventually.
Before shutting down I checked memory use and it was a little over 3,400 KB. I use the Resource Monitor to watch my memory use in the game. I open it from link at the bottom of the second tab of Task Manager. The column I look at is headed 'Commit KB''. It shows the amount of virtual memory reserved by the Operating System for the process in KB. If I see that number has gone up to around 3,000 or more I stop playing and save in a very empty part of the world. Then I shut down and relaunch. I might still get an Error 12 with that save but usually not. I check while playing and if it gets above 3,000 KB then I move to an empty part of the world and hope it gets below around 2,700 so I have some chance of not getting an Error 12. Today it got up to a little over 3,400 KB while I was in the overstuffed house in Alyrne Valley. I was still able to go into Edit Town and merge the two household to move my sim back to her original house and save. Without this new software it would have simply shut down before I could do anything about it when I saw such a high number in that column.
I also saved all of my saves to my external hard drive before adding any new files to the game. Just in case something happens to them. I wouldn't like to lose my Perfect Genetics Challenge game.
I hope this info helps.
