Raiders Of The Lost Island Consignment Shop

This has been on the go since 11th October 2011 (!) and is now up to episode one hundred and forty five, featuring the Simselves of various past and present members of the Simming community down the years (quite a few we had to either make ourselves or 'rescue') plus some other characters thrown in, on the hunt to solve the mystery of the Winterbottom Code and make sure the secrets Gilbert Winterbottom took to his unknown grave fall into the right hands (or at least not into the wrong ones).

But as this is the Simsworld, subplots, subplots of the subplots and all manner of shenanigans have intervened as a result (although it still makes more sense that the last series of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" ...)

In the latest episode, young xxMaddi, her tulpa twin Dim-Daxx and fellow renegade 'Hand Maiden' Jaden Thorn, along with Boolprop's Tygercat12 and scientist Lao Tzu, have been sailing for their lives in the Simediterranean Sea away from Nilxi's holiday paradise of Plavi Raj before he can send the Nilxisarmada after them (after a 'small misunderstanding' in the Chapel of Santa Carlos Ramirez) - not realising Nilxis is currently preoccupied dealing with Crowkeeper's sudden pyrotechnic riddled appearance to deliver her latest doom filled prophecy.

(The sailing boats are from Murfeel's blog for anyone interest, although obviously the Granny Roger sail complete with blue rinse wig, false teeth and hip replacements doesn't come with it)

Unfortunately, they have now discovered they're not quite getting the warm, friendly welcome they were expecting at their pre-arranged rendezvous with the the Fair Fey of the Fairy Realm ...

... owing to the small fact they appeared to have mislaid the Princess Ofelia who was with them  ...

  • Pretty cool to have a story going that long. Hope you have fun with the upcoming shenanigans. I guess the early episodes are no longer available?

The whole story to date is still up, but stopped it being pictures and text after Part 56 - when Aarin, Chyla, Switch, Zhivan and the Doctor failed to stop the Simgurus supercomputer from triggering Project Olympus (vaporising the Simmerverse outside of their new Fourth Dimension), only for TadOlson to turn up and stop it simply by turning off the electricity (which none of them had considered for a moment ...). It marked the start of a new story arc.

From Part 57 in 2020, we changed over to cartoon using the same program (we think) that the Archivist used to use for her famous cartoon strips - Comic Life 3, which although at times a little temperamental, really is a joy to use.

It made for more show instead of tell, forced us to make the story less convoluted and more Sims 3 orientated.

We'd done a story called The Sea Nymphs based on Rflong7/13's Horse Head Island to learn what worked and what didn't with the format. It also forced us to relearn our rather rusty Sims creating and lot building skills.

One thing we learned the hard way was not to drown the pics in text bubbles, and if that meant more pics, so be it. If that meant one more chapter, so be it.

We were so pleased with the end results, we decided to do another experiment with The Llama Lies Down On Broadway - a sort of love letter to the magnificent Boroughsburg created by Potato Ballad Sims - as a prequal to the events of The Sea Nymphs but after the events in Raiders ...

But we digress. Since the switch to cartoon style, the plot has gone back to the chase for the legendary Winterbottom treasure (whatever it may be), whilst the rest of the Simworld are trying to adjust to no longer being dominated by Simgurus (the few failing to escape to the 4th dimension being in complete disgrace), not realising the Simworld's mysterious glyphs are so fed up with Sims they're considering 'resetting' the planet ...

Rflong7/13, Nilxis, the Temple of Boolprop, Twallan, Berrypie and Jix2993 amongst other try their best to bring some order, and Sharkloverplayer meanwhile just wanting to make an honest buck from his Java Hut (with hidden casino); but when you've Moryrie and several other Jazzers beyond the Great Knit's control, Simliches, Gregorina, Crowkeeper and the fairy equivalent of Efrafa running amok, what chance do any of them have?

Episodes tend to be 20 pictures long and contain the occasional old EA forum gags, such as Cororon and Pollysim striking Abba video 'Ingmar Bergmann' poses (as per above) - back in the day, Pollysim had a signature that said 'Too Emo For Abba' whilst Cororon's read 'Too Abba For Haggis'. But the tale and sub plots are stand alone, so you can pretty much dive in as far back or not as far back as you wish to go and you'll soon pick up on the main plot.

Anyway, if there's anyone out there that feels they've lost their Simming mojo, we cannot recommend enough getting Comic Life 3 and starting a Simming story this way - you'll be amazed how far you will have cracked on with your tales in a very short space of time.

  • Sounds like it was a cool project. Is there still a link to the complete series?
