When I was younger, this was the end of 2004, we had only been living in the states for a little while, about 2 years. (I am from Australia.) We got this horrible ice storm that knocked out the power initially, and then it was followed by around 5 feet of snow. We were on the Level 3 snow emergency for over a week, and our power stayed out for 2 weeks total. The worst part about losing your power for so long is that the food starts going bad. We had to keep most of ours on the back porch because it would freeze if we put it outside and it's not practical to keep freezing and thawing certain things out, like milk. We had to grill out in the deep snow, and we all slept in the family room around a kerosene heater. A year or so ago I was in my very first apartment with my young son and our power was out for 3 days, mid-July. It was the most miserable time of our lives, and all our food went bad because I had no way to go buy ice. I can imagine what you went through, Vi, and I hope you were able to save some of your food!
