We offer different levels of experience, and those who enter receive (at the very least, because it's usually many more) one rec and a download for your work. At the end of the challenge, winners are posted within a week and every entrant receives feedback on his or her work at the winner's circle thread. In the posts below, you will find all the information and links related to each challenge. Build-n-Share Weekly Challenge #55 - I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore... Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/265588.page This Week’s Challenge Specifics: So while we’re in the mood for movies, I thought I would issue a challenge I have wanted to try myself for quite some time. It is based on a classic movie I have seen a countless number of times. And now I hope all of you will try your hand at recreating this classic home and scene from The Wizard of Oz. For those who are unfamiliar with the movie, or even those who do know it, I have included two You Tube links for inspiration. The challenge comes in two forms for this week’s contest: 1. To recreate (as nearly as possible from the shots you see in the videos) the home and Munchkinland, where the home lands. 2. And the biggie...To design the home in “black and white,” just like it is in the movie, and Munchkinland in all its Technicolor splendor. As a tip, keep in mind that black and white movies contain muted grays more than harsh black and white hues. Consider material as well. Metals will probably be too reflective a texture, while fabrics might give the softer look you need. And those are the directions. Make Munchkinland as vast as you like, or more compact if time is short. But be sure to capture the essence of the colorless home in the midst of a vibrantly colored outside world. Please note that photo effects to create the appropriate colors is not allowed. Your build must truly be black and white in-game. My suggestion is to build just the home first and save it to the library. Then continue building on the original lot to add the rest of the grounds. The second lot is the home in Munchkinland. If you saved to the library, you already have the home itself built, now you can just redecorate the outside to reflect her arrival "somewhere over the rainbow." AS A SIDENOTE: I have been considering writing a playing challenge based on The Wizard of Oz for awhile now. Down the road, if I decide to do this (I'll need to do some playtesting first), I would like to be able to use one or two of these lots. If you are OK with that, please note it on your official entry form. I will most likely select one build with cc and one lot without cc. The next day, Rose knocks on your door and shows in Fatima and Vadim Simovitch and their daughter, Betty. "Good morning!," you greet the family. "I've been looking over your requests, and I've come up with some great design ideas for your home. It sounds like your looking to update and modernize things which I can definitely take care of. Can you tell me a little more about what you want? Are we doing a tear-down and new build or renovating the existing house?" "Well, you're the expert," replies Vadim. We don't really have a preference. You can knock it all down, add windows, add walls, whatever you think is best." "Excellent! I notice that each of your favorite colors are green, pink, and white. I'll try to work those in as accent colors. Do you have any other requests?" "Well, I do like animal prints," remarks Fatima. You notice Betty roll her eyes and suppress the smile that comes to your lips. "I can certainly try to work that into the design somehow. Perhaps in the master suite? In a tasteful way, of course," you add to appease Betty. "And I really want a gourmet kitchen," sighs Vadim. "I love to cook for the family. It's a hobby of mine, and our current kitchen leaves a bit to be desired." "I'm so tired of how boxed off our dining and kitchen areas are," adds Fatima. If I'm in the kitchen, I can't see or talk to someone in the living room. I love how open and breezy new homes are. Can you make our house more like that?" Build-n-Share Challenge #168 - The NovelistChallenge Deadline: Friday 31st of July, Midnight CMT.“Jade! How lovely to see you!” You exclaim. Going to the grocery store is always fun for you. You run into everyone at sometime or other it seems. In this case, its literally. “Sorry for bumping your cart.”“Its okay,” ‘Jade’ smiles at you with lips painted wine red. “However you have the wrong sister.” You step back, studying her. Emerald green eyes glitter in amusement at you, a deeper warmer look than Jade’s pale green business like stare. Instead of being pulled stylishly but efficiently back from her face, the sister’s raven hair curls romantically around her face and over her shoulders. Her dress, made of a rich burgundy velvet, is casually and elegantly gothic in style. Otherwise, she’s identical to Jade Bloodclaw.“I’m sorry,” you say sheepishly.“Not at all. Being identical twins, it happens all the time.” She moves her cart to the side ot let someone else get by. “My name is Fire Bloodclaw.”You shake hands with her, introducing yourself. Then a light bulb blinks on. “Fire Bloodclaw? The novelist? The one who wrote Empire of Jade?”She laughs a sensual laugh, “The same. You’ve read it?”“I haven’t. My assistant however raved about it. Also, she likes old-fashioned things, like riding a bike and drying her clothes on the line outside. The second because what is more private then a private island and the third was that I had just watched a waterfall tutorial on YouTube and I really wanted to try it out. To that end I wanted to build something simple because Fire doesn't want the hassle of a complicated home upkeep and I wanted something a bit eclectic, but still cozy and tasteful because to me all authors are a bit on the fringe and always thinking creatively, seeing things for what they could be and not necessarily what they are. The library's decorations were kept to a minimum to reduce distractions (If you can ignore that view) in case Fire wanted to do some serious binge writing and almost every room has somewhere to sit in case she decides to take her laptop on the road. Build-n-Share Challenge # 1 – Building Firm and Representative This Week’s Challenge Specifics: This week’s challenge actually consists of two projects. Creating a sim and creating a lot. You may enter just the lot or both of the challenges. Winners will be announced for each, creating an opportunity for six possible winners this week. The Sim: Create a representative for your building firm. This may be a “simself” or a pretty face for the public. Your sim may be uploaded with the lot or separately (from the sim bin). The Lot: Create your building firm. It can be a community lot or “home business.” It can be as big or small as you want on whichever size lot works best for you. You may also choose the style of your building (ie. ultra-modern, country, etc). Also create a name for your firm. This is the name we will associate with you and all of your builds in the Build-n-Share challenges. You should include this name in the description of your lot when you upload it to The Exchange. "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir..." The sound of Rose's absent-mindedly off key singing at the copier wafts in through your open door. "Hmmm... this should be interesting," you think to yourself.

Still humming, Rose walks into your office and begins stacking folders in your inbox. She starts a bit as she notices you looking at her expectantly. "Oh!" she exclaims in embarrassment. "Was I singing out loud again?"

"Yes. Yes, you were," you confirm with a grin. "And quite a... well, interesting song I'd say." Rose grins, and you think you see a hint of a blush on her cheeks. "Anything to do with our new client?" you ask innocently.

Rose blushes even deeper. "Maybe," she says a bit defensively trying to look offended, but her stern look is totally upstaged by a rueful smile.

"Tell me about him," you urge. "Our conference call is in an hour, and I want to make sure I'm prepared."

Rose collapses into a chair, and you think you detect a hint of dreaminess in her eyes. "Olivier Du Trieux is his name. And, of course, he's from Champs les Sims." She says this with finality as if it should explain everything.

"Ah, well," you allow. "He sounds interesting. Is there anything else I should know about him?"

"Oh, he's very handsome," Rose continues. "And he's looking for a pied a terre in Bridgeport as he's going to be performing surgeries at the Sacred Spleen as a visiting specialist. But he doesn't want to give up his home in Champs les Sims"

"Hmmm... a pied a terre, that's something new for us," you muse.

"Oh, and I haven't told you the best part," Rose continues. "He's head-over-heels in love with Caroline Custard. They met while she was on assignment for a story in Champs les Sims. It's been a bit of a rocky long-distance relationship," Rose confides, "but Olivier is convinced he can win her love if he's closer, and they can spend some time together."

"Sounds like you and Olivier have really hit it off," you remark.

Rose blushes again and stammers a bit. "Oh, well, uhm.... No, I've just been... I mean... I.... I HAD to interview him, uhm, thoroughly to find out what he needs," she finally squeeks before rising and trying to back out of your office.

"Thank you, Rose!" you assure her before she goes. "All kidding aside, you've done a great job of getting to know Olivier and have made my work that much easier."

Rose smiles at you gratefully as she leaves the office.
"Okay, Mr. Du Trieux," you mumble aloud as you fire up the video conference software. "Let's see if you're really as charming as Rose has set you up to be..."

If building in Bridgeport, use "testingcheatsenabled" + "RestrictBuyBuildInBuildings false" to also redecorate the landing/hallway outside of Olivier's pied a terre. If building elsewhere, provide landscaping for your apartment.

It's the start of a new week, and you settle into your desk with anticipation. Mr. Du Trieuex was thrilled with his new get-away apartment, and you are excited to delve into the next design challenge. Rose bustles in with a thick file and drops it onto your desk with emphasis.

"Drop everything - this is your next client," she says excitedly.

"Who is it?" you ask as you begin to flip through the file.

"Not WHO," she tells you, WHAT - it's Sims University!"

"The University?" you ask, a bit puzzled.

"Yep." she confirms. "The Housing department is looking to diversify into the off-campus housing market. Not every sim wants to live in a dorm, after all. The head of housing figures that the University can make a good bit of money and maybe stave off a tuition hike for the students if they can get in on this market."

"Hmmmm...." you muse. "I can see the potential there. What do they want us to do?"

"Well, they're thinking duplexes with small, two-bedroom units. They figure they can buy up some of the older homes near the university, demolish them, and put several duplexes on each lot."

"Well, that would certainly provide them with a nice, new revenue stream," you agree.

"Here's the best part," Rose continues. "They've randomly chosen four sims from the incoming freshman class - two girls and two boys to live in the first duplex. They want us to design and decorate it for the students. They're hoping to get a good buzz going with some promo pictures and word-of-mouth advertising if the students are pleased with their new digs."

"Ah, sounds like an interesting job," you agree as you start looking at the information on each student. The University has included their admissions applications as well as the personality inventories that they use to match roommates in the dorms. Rose quietly backs out of the office and leaves you to your work...

*Furnishings should be stylish, but not extravagent - these are Uni students, after all.
*Should have a small kitchen with room for 2 or more to eat
*Common area should include lounge and study options for 2
*The four bedrooms (2 per unit) should be decorated to reflect the personalities of each of the four incoming freshmen.

Build-n-Share Challenge #196-197 • Jitters - A Community Lot

Sorry - no fancy story for this one (yet). A young, hipster couple has commissioned you to build and design their dream business - the basic idea is to create a coffee house/bookstore community lot. If it has space for music performances at night, even better. The lot should be no larger than 30x20/20x30 (can be even smaller).

Challenge Brief

* The store should have at least a functional book register and a food register, as well as at least one coffee machine.
* It should have a hipster vibe that would make the coffeehouse crowd want to hang out there.
* Outdoor seating is required.
* At least one restroom is required (can be unisex).
* Budget is $60,000
* CC is allowed, but please list/link/credit them when you submit so that downloaders can find them!
* Entry must be fully landscaped and decorated.

Optional Challenge:

Snap a candid (or staged with pose player) shot of townies enjoying the new coffeehouse space you have created.
