A Guide to The Gifting Forum-Updated 09/13/2012
Hello, I created a guide a while ago and a thread. But it was somewhat sloppy, so with the help from Joolster, stikystuff, blacksheba & anettesb The thread has been made into a more organized thread.=)
Following the increased amount of begging threads and bogus contests that never get finished, we’ve decided it’s time to make a thread with some Gift Gathering guidelines.
Contrary to popular belief, Gift Gathering is not a place where you will be gifted on demand . We are not some sort of simpoint well with no feelings. We are a friendly community.
Gifts aren’t something you expect, gifts are something you earn. Simpoints cost real life money, how would you react if a random stranger asked you for 25$ on the street? That’s how we feel when you ask us to gift you Lunar Lakes.

◘ Engage in chatter with forummers. Do not feel shy because we don’t bite.
◘ Make introductory threads for yourself if you’re new and would like to make new friends
◘ Make a thank you thread to show your appreciation of everyone who has gifted you
Join contests
◘ It’s perfectly okay to have items on your wishlist, especially 25-50 items and page goodies. A lot of people like sending little gifts to strangers around the forums.

✘-Make “please gift me this” threads or any variation. That includes “take a look at my WL” and “I really need this”. Justifying begging with a sobstory about having no job or the store being too expensive doesn’t really work either.
✘-Try to scam people for gifts. We may be nice but we are not stupid. Spare us the tales of your friend Bob getting hacked out of all of his simpoints, especially if Bob has no friends, no badges, no games registered and no forum posts made.
✘-Make subliminal messages hinting at gifts. Having “I don’t have access to simpoints” and “I really need more children clothes in my game” in the same sentence might seem begging to some even though it’s not technically said out loud. This might cause a misunderstanding if you sincerely did not mean to hint and someone’s feeling might get hurt.
✘-Post your wishlist link unless asked so for a lottery/contest. Most of us here see that as a rude gesture
✘-Have your wishlist in your signature
✘-Yes, we have certain threads where newcomers would most likely get gifted (reach’s directory, underdog thread) but please don’t make a habit of posting in there for gifts, receiving a gift then disappearing ‘til the next time you come for a gift. That is extremely rude.
✘-Start contests if you do not intend to finish them, be it the fact you’re busy with real life or you’re promising prizes you will never be able to deliver.
Start contests with no prizes because you expect everyone to throw their simpoints at your feet. Offering creations, studio recs and other things is a nice enough prize for a contest and will encourage more people to participate in your contest and a bigger chance of getting sponsors.
✘-Have ridiculously expensive items on your WL. Some generous simmers like to gift newbies or surprise random forummers. You’re far less likely to be gifted if your WL consists of 500-2000 items only.
✘-Send friend requests just to spam peoples’ pages with gift begging
Gifters- We can not tell you who to gift and who not to gift, but it's suggested not to gift blatant beggers(those who know its wrong).
Gifters, please do not revive old begging threads.Make sure you look at the date, if they were created months ago, just ignore it,Especially if someone has already posted on it.
hosting a contest, you should not expect something in return.Hosts give prizes; not receive them.
Thank you to: Graceymanor, Joolster, anettesb, stikystuff & blacksheba for their thoughts and input on making this guide.
Edited 09/13/12: Just edited some of the wording.
