Shift-clicking and deleting a sim is not recommended as it will leave bits of data in the game that will ultimately corrupt your save. The best bet if you want to "delete" a sim is to get NRAAS Master Controller and Totally Annihilate the sim. That will clear all the data for that sim in the game to prevent your game save from being ultimately corrupted to the point where it is unplayable.
