Sims 3 custom music genre subfolder help

Okay, so I haven't played Sms 3 since 2022, as I have been playing sims 4, but I finally turned it on today, I had a bit of an issue with the launcher but I figured it out.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I decided that I wanted to move some of the song files from my Sims 3 game to my Sims 4 game but I can't because every time I launch sims 3 and play a song on one of the genres, nothing gets added to the custom music folder in my sims 3 folder. In other words, no subgenre folders appear no matter what I do.

Here's what I have done to try to resolve this:
Updated my driver
Launched the game with the current Sims 3 folder > Played a song via the game options > Checked the sims 3 folder.
Nothing was added to my current Sims 3 folder's music folder. The only music that appears in that folder is the music that I added years ago.
I also entered the game and played a song via a stereo and checked the folder again.
Still nothing was added.

The next thing I did was I moved the Sims 3 folder to my desktop and repeated the steps above.
This time the only thing that appeared in the custom music folder was six songs and none of them were the ones that I listened to.
This was a completely vanilla game.

I found these as suggestions online.

The next thing I'm going to try which was also an online suggestion is, rename the Sims 3 folder, then launch the game and do everything I did above yet again.

I came in here with the hope that someone might be able to help me before I resort to the daunting task of uninstalling and reinstalling the game and all of the packs.
I'm hoping that I won't have to, but I will if I must. This will be a last resort task, as it could take a long time to do.

I may go back to playing Sims 3 on occasion as well so I'm not doing this just to move music files.
I'll just have to play with the graphics, probably a lot, as the game doesn't recognize my video card and it put everything on high. I'm not sure why though, as when I built this computer I had playing Sims 3 and 4 in mind. But I do admit, I still don't know much about computers, but I know a lot more than I did 20 years ago thanks to these forums.

Has anyone successfully done this? Can anyone help me with this?
I really like that Luke Bryan song and I really want my Sims 4 sims to do the country dance from horse ranch to it. It's not a big deal if it's not possible, but it would be disappointing.

I have all of the packs and just NRAAS and some user created worlds if that helps.

Please help.
Thank you.

Songs from expansions should be in the FullBuildepX file here:

    [install location] > The Sims 3 > [expansion's folder] > GameData > Shared > Packages

If that's too daunting, you could play any given song while in-game and record it instead, then drop that file into Sims 4.  If you don't want other game sounds getting in the way, play the song through the Options menu, which lists all of them by genre and I believe will play them in their entirety.

    Thank you for the reply.
I don't any expansion folders in my sims 3 folder, but I have all of the packs.
I don't know how to find the location that you mentioned in my sims 3 folder.
I did [install location] >sims 3 > then nothing, there's no expansion folders

The only thing that I have that mentions the expansion worlds is my saves folder.

I seem to remember having a full custom music folder when I first installed the game. I guess I was mistaken. I mixed it up with the sims 2 folder. I was looking in there for songs to move too and there's an entire list of subfolders in there. But most of those are empty too, but I'm not worried about those, as I can't play sims 2 anymore.

I think found something on a website that has the sims 3 music files in MP3 format for free and it's a legit site.
Thank you for trying to help.

  • simgirl542  The install location I was referring to is the location where you've installed your game.  You're looking at the user folder, which is not the same thing.  The default install location when installing through the EA App is this:

    C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3

You can see it in the EA App, under Sims 3 > Manage > View properties.
