If you don't edit your adopted sims, you already know how they will look like, don't you? Same with aliens, actually. You can change hairstyles, beards and accessories though. Of course, that doesn't mean it can't be fun.
I have one save in Moonlight Falls where I have only one sim in a household, but as I play on epic lifespan (with shorter baby and toddler stages), that gets a bit old after a while. I got him some pets though. I would probably have to make him an explorer to escape the daily routine. Or go through all the Ambitions careers, some of which are better done alone. Late Night's Bridgeport is another place to stay an eternal single.
