Anyone playing just one sim

Do you play just one sim, never marry, adopt maybe. Do you like playing with one sim and how long of a life span. I was thinking of doing a generation from just one sim, adopt a child and he never marries but can adopt to keep the generation going, would love to see how the generation would look say 10 or 20 generations later.

  • @Turjan Adopted sims aren't like genies and humanised IFs, which always have that same pancake/pudding face. Adopted sims have random faces, so no two are usually the same.

As for the topic of the thread, I enjoy playing with just one sim sometimes. Usually they end up being my explorer sims who set out to explore all the tombs or they'll be my overachievers who strive to get every University degree.
  • I usually play with just one (female) sim and it's only way later that I have her get married, have children (usually just one), and only to have a next generation when said sim dies.

I started a new game a few weeks ago and I'm currently on the second gen. My female sim got her Fine Art degree and she's close to getting at the top of the Film career. Once that's done I'll have her go on vacation and explore, before thinking about settling down with her boyfriend. She's only a YA after all :D

No, you don't. Adopted children don't all look alike.

That's great to hear  . I read otherwise in a thread on this forum, and I have never tried it myself, which is why I thought that information was correct. My families obtain already enough children in other ways.

@IreneSwift - May I ask you a question? My Sim has adopted two children. The first child (a little boy) has her eyes and eye color, the second child (a little girl) has some of her facial features. Both children were adopted as toddlers (they are currently children). The pictures of the brothers you posted, they seem to have a family resemblance although each of their individual features are different. I am wondering, do they possess any of the features of their adopted parent(s)?

  • @mw1525 I don't think the brothers look anything alike, so I'll let you judge for yourself.

Here are the parents as young adults.

Here are the three daughters born to the parents.

I noticed the two brothers basically have the same face, if we don't consider hair, eyebrows or eyes, which are usually completely random in the vanilla game.

I just had my first adoptive child ever, given by SP to a couple of two guys. I wanted to adjust the genetics of the child to their parents. However, when I did so, I was surprised that the result didn't change. The child kept looking exactly the same, only the skin color changed to that of the other parent. Which somehow suggests that the adoptive child already had the features of the parents in the first place.
  • @Turjan The brothers don't look the same at all. Every feature is different, not just hair or eyebrows.
That's very interesting about the adopted child in your game. I have only had adopted children in a few instances and they didn't get any of their adoptive parents' features.
  • Hmm. Admittedly, it's really hard to tell at the child stage.

As for those brothers, I guess I have a really hard time looking at those vanilla graphics. If I look closely, I see differences in eye and mouth structure, the right one has a bigger chin, and some of the jaw features are moved. I still don't see a difference in the noses. Anyway, they look rather similar to me.

@IreneSwift - I don't think your brother's look alike but, I do think they resemble each other. Maybe it's the length or the general shape of their heads. When I compare the brothers to their parents, it appears (to me) that the brother on the right side of the screen shares the general head shape of his mother, while the brother on the left head is more shaped like his father. Also, the brother on the right eyes slightly tilt, similar but not to the extent of his father. While the brother on the left has the same (or near same) eye positioning of his mother. At least that's how my eyes interpret it.

@Evalen - I play on a modified epic life span and have many single Sim households. I don't get bored with them although I will say their days seem to move a lot faster than those of my Sims who have families. Some of my single Sims are created by me and others of them were Sims who I 'rescued' from various saves or situations. My sims don't get lonely because the game provides a lot of ways for them to socially interact with other Sims, animals or plant life at any time of the day or night.

If your Sim is to become a 'SimFu Tomb Raider', they are going to be very busy with training, meeting other Sims, adventuring and the likes. Adopting a child would definitely add a challenge to the mix! But a worthwhile challenge (IMO). There are just so many different ways your Sim's life story could play out.
  • When I first started playing Sims 3. I used to play single sims which pretty much were loners mainly to get the hang of the controls before delving into more complicated story-lines like my legacy.

(Don’t mind the amateurish attempts at screen-caps. I was not as proficient at taking pictures with walls up back then)
Nobby (Nobutake) was pretty much a loner sim and kept to himself. In this game River McIrish kept coming over to talk to him. Since he was a young adult and she was a tern it wouldn’t have gone over too well.

In this pic he’s trying to sweep Morgana off her feet and quite possibly steal her away from Thornton. ~smirk~
