Back to the classics!

Hello guys! I guess I just wanted to come down here and announce that I'm playing sims3 again! haha

When the last game pack trailer dropped, I finally realized that sims4 is making me want to chuck my computer out the window. Every day the urge is a little stronger, so for my computers safely, I decided to take a break. I still need some sims in my life though! I messed around with sims2 a little, but my greatest love was always sims3. Small problem... it was running horribly slow! I was clueless, because I remember it played fine on my old-old-old computers. My current laptop is only a month old and an acer predator helios (made for gaming). The lag was driving me crazy and even with all the graphics at the lowest, it didn't seem to help much.

I thought I had to give up my renewed dream of open worlds and burrito babies, but I kept thinking about it and doing little searches. A few days ago, I found this guide that helped me improve my game and I am so thankful! I had to share it in case anyone was in the same boat as me and taking a break from star wars- oops, I meant sims4. :p

It's on steam website, so I had to switch around some of the folder locations for origin, but I did most everything they listed, and I can actually play with all my settings on ultra now. :smiley: I only have one sim currently though, so we'll see what happens when I add to the family. *crosses fingers* I even downloaded a few CC! :) Here are what my graphics look like:

I don't actually know if that's good or not, but I'm ok with it! I do still have a little stuttering and lag, and maybe that can never really go away(?) but It's much easier to ignore with all the file changes and things that I added. I might try turning some of the graphics down to test that and I still plan on downloading the world fixes, so that might help too. I will just have to remember how to save my sim and house to put her in a new game file... :o

Also! Question please! ...
I only have version 1.1 of the save cleaner because version 2 didn't seem to work for me. There was no option to load a save file. So I hope 1.1 still works correctly! I used it twice so far and it didn't seem to break anything (but I don't know if it helped either lol) If anyone has any other tips for keeping the game running smoothly I'd love to hear them. I did scan around the forums, but I wanted to post this too.

Anyway- Happy simming everyone, good luck to anyone trying to fix their sims3 game, and thank you for reading! <3

    @Wyrren : welcome back!
    Your picture looks great! Your Sim is beautiful!
    Here is a very useful guide, I would say THE ultimate guide to The Sims 3! https://www.nraas.net/community/TIPS-FOR-BETTER-GAME-PERFORMANCE
    I would also recommend to download NRaas´ Master Controller, Overwatch, Debug Enabler, Register and Error Trap for a better performance.
    And yes, Save cleaner 1.1 still works!

    WB :) Keep in mind Step 4 of that link is false info. There's no way to boost how much RAM a 32-bit program such as Sims 3 can use. People will claim they followed that step and think that it helps but it's simply not possible. Limiting framerate is very important though so don't skip that. ;) I recommend keeping the in-game setting High Detail Lots low... Doesn't matter what computer someone has, the game just doesn't like having to render every nearby lot if it doesn't have to.

    I believe if you're on patch 1.69, Save Cleaner 2.2 won't work. You might want to check out the NRaas page: Tips For Better Game Performance if you haven't already.

  • Step 4.5b about the vRAM isn't quite correct either. The game is only programmed to use 800 MB of vRAM, it can't really work with 8,079, and texture memory is only a subset of that. If getting the 32MB override needlessly, the better fix would be to force a replace with 1024.

    The others above are correct, v1.1 of SaveCleaner is the one that still works on Patch 1.69 and Steam installs. It doesn't do quite as deep a job of cleaning as v2 does and it doesn't touch the TravelDB file, which in some ways makes it "safer" to use because then certain types of photos and portraits that sims create won't need special protection or stand to get blanked out as a result. But it's still the version I use (on Steam, not Origin/1.69), in case that glowing endorsement carries any weight. :)

    Thanks for the link to the other site! I will definitely check it out. Kinda sad to know that the ram used can't be changed. I had thought that was what was making the biggest difference. But glad to know the version of save cleaner I have is ok to use. Thanks everyone! :)
