I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but for your imaginary friend problem, you can keep the doll in your character's personal inventory and they won't walk around. It does get annoying when they follow the Sim into the bathroom. When the imaginary friend starts walking around after your toddler ages up to child, wait until the child goes to bed. The imaginary friend will go back into doll form near the child's bed and you'll be able to put it back in your child's inventory. The child will still play with it, but it stays in doll form.
