Can NHD files be Safely Deleted from Save Folder?

You know the truly annoying thing about rotational play is that the LTW counter resets. It's like a firefighter needs to save #x of sims, and everytime I switch (which is all the time) the counter resets and he starts from 0. As it is now I have to manually remember the counter to re-add it with MC.
