Custom Career and Ocean Animation

Has anyone been genius enough to create a custom self employed Artist career that combines earnings from selling paintings, sculptures and/or inventions?

My current sims LTW is to be a descendant of da vinci so it would be great to be able to have a career that compliments it entirely instead of having to choose only one specialism at a time.

If one hasn't been created, would it be possible? how difficult would it be and are there any good tutorials available as i'd be willing to give it a shot

Also... is there a way to turn off ocean animations or slow it down when playing at the higher game play speeds (3-4)?
I'm currently playing Isla Paradiso and due to suffering with vertigo I have to look away from the screen because of the ocean animation. :s
  • On the career question, not that I know of and could be mistaken but I believe that such a blended custom self-employed career would require scripting to create much more so than custom rabbithole careers do. That would mean that a working knowledge of C# and probably .NET programming would be prerequisites before we get into the specifics and how-tos, and this is what has always blocked me from even attempting script mods myself.

But if you have those skills, there are still TS3 script modders active on ModTheSims (MTS) who may be able to provide further guidance as needed.

If anyone has seen such a career already produced though, I would be happy to be proven wrong.

On the ocean animations question, this probably isn't going to be very helpful either but my solution to such things I'm afraid is to never run the game at high speeds if it can at all be avoided.
  • This is only a guess since I have no real insight, but maybe use Buzzler's mod 'Moar Interactions' (updated 2015 - okey?) that allows a full-time job and a part-time, and then add a custum part-time job, seemingly possible just with the xml-resources. And maybe all this is compatible with the tip you got at MTS, to use NRaas custom careers?
It's just 1 1/2, but you did say 'and /or'

    I read this:

  • @igazor thank you for your advice, sadly I don't have any relevant skills to attempt something that complex. I do try to keep my playing speed low, however I do get impatient haha

@Auroraskies thank you so much for the links and helpful tips. I do have NRaas career mod so i'll go check out MTS and also his custom add ons. The full time and part time career option could work really well for painting/sculpting. I said and/or with inventing as i'm more inclined to believe that's leaning more towards scientific than artistic.

Thank for all your help guys, it's much appreciated :)

  • Another tip, yet again with no personal experience, would be to use Zerbu's mod 'Ultimate Careers' that would allow control during work hours.

If 'Science' is chosen, the objects used that enhance career performance are: Invention workbench v. 3.4 (and the inventions!), Drafting Table v. 3.4 (skilling in painting) and Brain Enhancer (UL) that can raise the Sculpting skill (although not in a way as fun as making the sculptures themselves).
I am not sure if the 'v. 3.4' means added to it or only working with it.

Maybe this would be more fitting to the da Vinci theme.

It says that it is not updated anymore, but there are simmers reporting using it on NRaas, if information is needed, and it is supposed to be compatible with NRaas custom careers and other mods.

Reading the comments in the links would be a good tip.

  • @Auroraskies that would be perfect for when I eventually get around to create my own custom world, thank you!
