Children returning from school too early

Hi, I have been dipping into playing the Sims 3 after years of only playing Sims 4, so forgive me if the answer to this is an obvious one! (P.S., I'm loving it!).

Anyway, on a couple of occasions, my Sims' children will walk in the door at midday, even though they left to school on the bus in the morning. I can't figure out why. Is this a glitch or am I missing something? Also, they will randomly have days off even when it isn't a snow day. It will just say there is no school till the next day.

I am attempting the 100 baby challenge in the Sims 3, and I have noticed the random day off usually occurs after I age up a teen to YA and move them out via edit world. But the children randomly coming home at midday doesn't occur after I make such a move.

TIA.

  • gertie47  For the kids coming home early, it's possible that they and anyone else there are getting thrown out of the school building for one reason or another.  This can happen when another sim inside is reset, or sometimes for no apparent reason, and it happens with work rabbitholes as well.  I've noticed it happens more often when I save/quit/reload while a sim is at work or in school.

At any rate, if you use mods or are willing to add a few, an NRaas MasterController reset of the lot (click the ground and select NRaas > MC > Reset Lot) should clear up the current cause, although it won't prevent the next instance.  The reset will send home any sim on the lot, so run it before school starts.

For the days off, are you saying that the kids left behind have the day off immediately after a teen ages up?  If you have Generations installed, the whole household is supposed to get the next day off to attend the new YA's graduation ceremony.  If you move the YA out immediately, you wouldn't see the ceremony, but the day off could still trigger, only now there wouldn't be an obvious reason.

MasterController can also be used to subtract (or add) days off from work or school, if you'd like.  You'd need the MC Cheats add-on as well.  Click the sim in question and select NRaas > MC > Intermediate > Career > Days Off > -1 [or whatever number you want; positive adds days, and negative removes them].
