You can also use nraas MasterController to move just the one painting if you know where it's supposed to be. Click on the ground, nraas>MC (option with bullseye)>radius add to inventory and select a suitably small radius (range is from 1 to 9). This will bring up a list of all the items nearby, and you can pick the painting(s) that disappeared on you.
