the sims 3 collection price

I was checking steam and noticed that The Sims 3 Collection used to be priced at around $60 on sale, but it's now listed at (no sale) $320. This steep increase makes it nearly impossible for most fans to purchase the game along with its DLC without going broke. Could you please clarify why this price hike occurred, and is there any chance of a more affordable option for those of us who love the series?

even right now its on sale but because of the increased price on a sale costs $170 and that is too much for the age of the game and even with all of the dlcs

  • NotAeGirl941  I don't have any inside information on this, but I would point out that both Steam and EA offer Sims 3 expansion and stuff packs for $20 U.S. each when not on sale.  EA has offered packs for as low as $8, but they're usually $10 during sales.  The Steam bundle (all EPs, all SPs minus Katy Perry, no base game) reflects a price of $10 per pack minus a 10% discount.  Expansions were originally $40, I believe.

Steam did use to offer the packs for as low as $5 each, and the bundle first had packs priced at $3.50, but I guess someone decided that enough people would pay a higher price to make it worth the increase.  That's usually how these things work.

As for the price being unreasonable, this is just over four years' worth of content, so it's really not that bad considering everything included.  It's certainly more than many people would want to pay, or could pay, but that doesn't make it inherently unjustified, especially when many players are still paying the current full price for one or a few packs at a time.

    ok keep defending greedy practices

the price is too high even new games doesnt cost this much for their "collectiors edtion"

  • NotAeGirl941  New games don't include four years of expansions in their price.  If you add up all the DLC that eventually gets released, the cost is often much higher in the end, at least for popular games with a player base that sticks around for that long.

And I don't think it's greedy to want money for a product.  If you don't want to pay, then don't; if enough people don't, prices will drop, as long as that's sustainable.  That's how capitalism works.  But it appears that enough people DO think the prices are reasonable to keep buying content.

I mean, i got all the witchers and their dlcs for under $15 (on steam sale). same with all the dragon ages and mass effects. i dont think anyone begrudges a company wanting to get paid (fairly), but for a game as old and busted as TS3, its just greed. which is funny, cuz thats how a lot of people are ending back up in TS3, because sims4 is just a complete gash grab at this point. "Want tissues in your game? Here! Buy a pack of tissues for $9.99!"  EA has doubled down on this predatory practice, well tripled down really, with the "new" TS1&2 collection. They gonna gouge no matter which one u (try to) play.  here's the thing tho, ALL of the games are more than 10 years old, and busted to varying degrees. in addition, u get absolutely no support, nor do u even get to actually own your purchase(s). if those things werent true, MAYBE, the prices would be justifiable. Now, i bought TS3 and most of the DLC back in the day, and $320 is probably close to what i paid in total, and it was the first time they did all digital copy instead of physical, so there was not even a manufacturing cost. the caveat is that we were getting support for the game back then. GL trying to get that now. Is $170 a good deal?  Maybe, if you can get a refund should it not work for u.  but, selling a (digital) game that is so old and buggy at best to downright unplayable for some, for the same price as original? Nah, thats just greed. nostalgia cash grabs are all the rage. true, i cant control everyones wallet or principles, but we can call this BS out for what it is. Predatory capitalism. The price is inflated, the product/service is diminished, and the consumer is paying the same price as if they were buying it new and serviced. Thats only a good deal for EA.

  • Then don't buy but don't expect things for free. If you think it's too buggy to even buy - don't buy it.  You call them greedy but  you're wanting it for nearly free - is greedy. Save up, wait for a sale, buy it one at a time or don't buy it.
