Custom TV Channels Help (Modding Discussion)

Greetings to The Sims Community.

I couldn't find a Modding Discussion regarding Sims 3 mods, unlike The Sims 4, but I hope it's not breaking any rules or anything.

I want to add some custom TV Channels to my Sims 3 game, meaning that I'm planning on copying the TV Channels from The Sims 4 (if I can) and transfer them over to the Sims 3; replacing the TV Channels they used to have until the mod is removed under my control.

But the guides that taught players how to add their own TV Channels are outdated; nobody made a discussion on how to add custom channels in The Sims 3 since 2011 and with the game's directory being updated on its current state, it's no longer possible to make custom TV Channels in the easy way, but I want to find out how. That's why I'm wondering if there are any new methods on making TV Channel Overrides from The Sims 3 today.
I'm also wondering if there's a way to make new TV Channels; I saw a modder make one about animation, and I want to make TV Channels fit for different genres, such as Movies or Commercials. How can I do that as well?

Also, this may not be related to The Sims 3, but how can I export the TV Channels from The Sims 4?

I'll appreciate any form of help.

    I've been wanting to do this so bad but I have no modding experience so I quickly gave up. The best place to ask for help would be on the Mod The Sims website. They have a forum section over there with creators who may be able to help.
  • I have to agree that MTS is the best place for this conversation.

    And it isn't going to be a simple process. A few mod developers have made custom tv channels over the years, but I only know of one that is both age-appropriate and reported to still be functional on current patch levels. Unfortunately that developer is no longer actively working on content for TS3, although I do see him swing by occasionally and he has been known to return after long leaves of absence.

    It's going to be much more complex than exporting video out of TS4 and importing it into TS3 as the games are programmed entirely differently and video/audio encoding come into the picture. Expect a 50-step process or something like that which would be impossible for us mere mortals who lack the encoding skills required to follow, but others at MTS should be able to point you in at least the right direction.
  • That is a great idea!!! If you ever manage to do that, I will be happy to use it, I love new channels for my simmies.
    There's Arsil's mod that igazor linked above, and there's the Animation channel by NileBlue last updated on 2015. In here there's a link to guide (it's in Chineese or something website but I clicked traslated the page in Chrome to see where to download).
    {I actually started to do some testing myself, apparently it uses VirtualDub which is a programm I use to use in the far past so it's cool, only that now I don't have the proper codecs so I'm kind of stuck at the codecs issue in virtual dub...}
    Anyway Good luck :smiley:

    Edit on 30-May to add that yesterday I tried all the guide, step by step (I sort of sorted the codecs thingy), tried it with some random movie clip I had on my computer and was looking forward to see it in game but alas! It didn't work in game, didn't even show up. even though I'm confident I went over all the 50 something steps in the guide... bur probably something went wrong in the way and I'm not even sure what... :/
