Do you Give or Buy Gifts for your Sims?

I do that to lol I even have my other sims give small gifts to

I also give my Sims gifts for their birthdays, graduations, anniversaries. I'll have every other sim in the family get them something but in big families, the gift giving and hug is time consuming.

I do buy birthday gifts for my sims. When the first one ages up to child, if the household can afford it, I'll buy playground equipment for them, adding new items as each younger sibling ages up, plus a bicycle in their favorite color, a tablet to do their homework on, and at least one skill item to fit whatever their traits are. Sometimes I have the parents each give one of the gifts to them. When they age up to teen, they'll get a new bicycle or a car of their own, if there's room on the lot to park it and money to buy it, and any skill and recreational items fitting their traits that they couldn't use until they reached that age. I don't usually buy graduation gifts, but the family does celebrate with a meal at the bistro after graduation. As each child grows up and moves out on their own, they take those gifts along with them. If there's something they can't carry in their personal inventory, I'll place an identical item in their new home before they move, and delete the one they're leaving behind.

Everybody also gets their favorite meal on their birthday, unless there's nobody in the household with enough skill to cook it.

I've never thought about doing that... what a great idea! I'll definitely have to do that now!

@GraceyManor - Yes, it is a must for me that my Sim parents give their children a gift. Skill toys and books when they age from infant to toddler. Skill builders and fun things when they age from toddler to child. With teens, I try to give them things which reflect more of their emerging personalities and interests. Sometimes it's hard when their actual personalities and interests don't match their traits.

@yoashmo - I don't require my younger Sims (children) to give gifts unless it is to their parents. And, I always like for that gift to be something the child has made themselves. After all, those are the best keepsakes ;)!

@IreneSwift - I especially love having the parents give their child a one-of-a-kind gift such as a gem cut in a special shape, this is especially nice if the gem is the child's favorite color. One gift I really like giving the teens is their own desktop PC. They love it also because they don't have to fight for or share the family PC :).

Super cute idea! I've given sims gifts for getting promoted, getting married or having a baby before, but I never thought of giving them b-day gifts, I'll have to try that out!

I love this idea. I try to do it with my sims as well, mainly during birthdays. I have the parents choose a gift that their child will enjoy and use, and that also reflects their personality. It usually ends up being a skill item or something that boosts their fun so I like the idea of gifting a meal or something unique like a gem :smile:

I do have my Sims give gifts to one another on special occasions from their inventories using the Generations Give Gift interaction. I usually reserve this for bigger celebrations—birthdays, graduations, weddings and anniversaries—but sometimes little things for other milestone achievements like getting on the honor roll or mastering a skill.

I usually try to give gifts based on interests of the giftee, such as giving sketchpads to budding artists, high quality produce to new gardeners to plant or books to bookworms. I’ve never given a specially written book as a gift, but that’s a great idea I shall be stealing! :mrgreen:

Other times, the gifter’s skills/traits may be the deciding factor. An inventor may gift widgets or other inventions, while an alchemist might gift helpful elixirs. A collector will often gift metals or gems—I especially like giving heart cut diamonds and smelted woohooium to newlyweds. My frugal Sims have been known to gift coupons for massages and other spa services, lol.

More generally, I’ve given stuffed animals and other toys, gnomes, music boxes, bubble bath, multi-tabs, laptops and minor pets. Teens might get a vehicle on their birthday or just prior to graduation. Parents of nooboos might receive a play-mat. Every family member is also gifted a deathflower at some point. Flowers, gems and bottles of nectar are some typical wedding and anniversary gifts I’ve done, but if there’s an artist in the family I like having a portrait painted of the couple together as a gift.

I also do favorite meals on birthdays and such, although I don’t necessarily restrict this to special occasions because I play extended life spans. If the recipe isn’t known by someone in the household, I order the favorite food to be delivered from the bistro or diner (using Buzzler’s mod).

Sims giving gifts to one another is fun and makes the game that much more immersive. :smile:

@starguru Coupons for massages and spa services? How do you do that?

Time to think about what Valentina and Juliette will gift Justin for his birthday. Probably order sushi, give him some scraps for his inventing, I don't know. lol

If a Sim has the frugal trait, they can clip coupons from the newspaper or get some online. Some coupons are for discounts on specific grocery or book store items, while others are for reduced-cost services at the day spa. They are randomly generated and only good for three sim-days.

I like pairing the spa service coupons with some bubble bath for Uni students and others who are often stressed out, to be given by my well-meaning but cheap Sims. xD
