@GraceyManor - Yes, it is a must for me that my Sim parents give their children a gift. Skill toys and books when they age from infant to toddler. Skill builders and fun things when they age from toddler to child. With teens, I try to give them things which reflect more of their emerging personalities and interests. Sometimes it's hard when their actual personalities and interests don't match their traits.
@yoashmo - I don't require my younger Sims (children) to give gifts unless it is to their parents. And, I always like for that gift to be something the child has made themselves. After all, those are the best keepsakes ;)!
@IreneSwift - I especially love having the parents give their child a one-of-a-kind gift such as a gem cut in a special shape, this is especially nice if the gem is the child's favorite color. One gift I really like giving the teens is their own desktop PC. They love it also because they don't have to fight for or share the family PC :).
