Do you Give or Buy Gifts for your Sims?

Maybe this is just something I do.

When it comes close to birthday time in my game, I always install or choose the Sim a gift. The gift is something I want them to have and may be a decorative item, a useful item which will help advance them or a non-item such as food. I do this for anniversaries or special occasions as well.

When the occasion is really special, I'll create a gift. Usually a custom designed article of clothing such as T-Shirts customized for the occasion or dresses or something to enhance their living space such as new sheets, blankets and curtains. I haven't learned how to mesh (yet) so I can't make anything from scratch.

I always have my Sim parents make something for their children like their favorite meal on their birthday. Or, they will write a short book especially for them or paint them a special picture. I haven't had them buy pets yet as presents but I have had them buy and fill aquariums as a present. If electronics are given, they are always upgraded to unbreakable to last longer.

As the Sim ages and moves about their lives, most of these gifts will end up in their attics, basements, sold or handed down for the next generation to use.

The gift giving is just a way for me to further personalize my game.

    @Turjan - Both concepts are talked about. My original line of thought is do 'you' as the player choose and give items/objects to your Sims. This is a Simmer to Sim action, different from buying them new things when needed or desired. The gift can be given on a special occasion or just because. I used their birthday as an example because that's generally when I begin looking through all the stuff I have for this game to find a gift for them. (Or, I fire up TSRW, TS3 Pattern Maker & Image software to make special clothing for them).

    For example, my Sim's son has a birthday coming up soon-ish (39 days). He will transition form child to teen. His mother will gift him a car, a new bookcase (that he wants) and the last three books in the fishing series. His step-dad is giving him a TV set (upgraded to unbreakable) and I am giving him a desktop PC, along with a brand new desk and chair set-up.

    While he won't actually 'know' the PC, desk and chair are from me, I will know. All he should be aware of is that his room has received an upgrade in environment and comfort on his birthday.

    @Mikezumi - Yep :D!

    This mod will let you clip coupons even if your sim is not frugal:

    @starguru I have a mod that adds more traits to sims though...
  • No. I have my Sims give gifts to each other sometimes but not me. ;)

  • All my sims get gifts on their birthdays from their spouses or parents etc. It varies depending on traits, but kids generally get tablets and bikes from the parents. All my sims that I create myself and if it is not a rags to riches story start with at least a tablet. I'm the creator so no I don't give them gifts. Life wasn't a gift enough? :D

    @Rflong7 - Well, you already know I do :). The gifts to my Sims are just a little bit of love from their watcher ;)!

    @bekkasan - Hey, I like it IRL when I am suddenly gifted things both physical and non-physical (opportunities) which I otherwise couldn't or wouldn't have gotten. Guess, I'm just passing the love along to my Simmies :D!
