Drive/walk out basement, or ponds/water features?

Its a question I have to ask myself every time I start building on a new lot.
I'm a big fan of having a sloped driveway into garage in the foundation, and having a floor under the foundation level makes it easier to put a real basement on a house with a foundation.
On the other hand, I like big ponds or lakes, with some landscaping. It makes going outside of the house more interesting and adds more things to do.
For obvious reasons, combining the two is complicated and with limited options.

So, do you guys prefer one or the other? Or maybe you don't like either?
  • I almost always end up with at least a pond for my sims to fish. And it looks nice and pretty too. My sims hardly ever even have cars, let alone garages. :D

@SimKeats Sloped driveways drive me crazy with the CFE command. But I keep wanting to do them...and never seem to succeed.

I like ponds. :D As you can see by my most recent build. :D

I'd rather have a nice garden + pond or lakes. I never create, use or download lots that have been CFE'd, because they have caused so many weird & routing issues in the past in my game,
  • I love running water in my builds and pond/fountains are easier to make. I have never really mastered CFE and attempts to use generally end in tears. However that doesn't help you. Have you considered putting your water feature in the back garden. In English gardens ponds are generally a feature at the back of the property, complete with garden gnomes :D That way there should still be room for the sloping driveway.
  • I recently upgraded my house in my Perfect Genetics challenge. It has basement driveway, and is in the middle of a huge pond. It looks very modern, but I'm probably going to try and make actual landscaping with my water, the big elevation differences are a challenge though.

I prefer the sloped driveway. If my sims want to fish, there are plenty of areas around their world to go to.

  • I like both ponds and walkout basements. It's hard getting the slope for basement garages though and since I very seldom buy cars for my sims I don't make too many of those. On large lots I also like to make a stream that empties into a pond and/or pool.
