@faytheful - do whatever you gotta do to avoid Origin, I know I would. I don't like being locked in, in fact I refuse to be locked in. :P
I refuse to be locked in too & have every intention of figuring out a way to play without Origin. I get that we are just LICENSED to use the software, as EA is so fondly accustomed of reminding us, but to bar us from being able to play unless we "sign in" or give account of our time online, its ridiculous imo.
I don't care enough for TS4 to make that type of sacrifice, being an adult. As I stated before the CEO's of EA are not accountable to us for their time, why should we be accountable to them for ours.
And when I think that I bought two copies of each item, (DL & disk) I get even more frustrated.
I spent a lot of money on Sims 3, not about to let them stop me from playing it.

The best way to prevent something happening to your sims 3 game is to own it on steam rather than origin. When you update the sims 4 it won't effect the steam version of TS3. You would have to uninstall the origin version of TS3 and replace it with the steam version. This will keep you at patch 1.67. Steam has sales all the time. If your lucky enough to have two computers keep TS4 on one and TS3 on the other. I don't play 4 so I never open origin to worry about them messing up my TS3 game.
