Errortrap and Overwatch- what am I doing wrong?

My game has been super laggy lately and I decided to use Overwatch and Errortrap again, after not having used them in several years. I installed them using these sites:
https://nraas.net/community/ErrorTrap
http:/https://nraas.net/community/Overwatch/
https://forums.thesims.com/en_Us/discussion/641547/mods-overwatch-and-errortrap

I also observed the How to Install page on the Nraas site to make sure I did it correctly. I copied and pasted the text on the 3rd link into a notepad file called .cfg. I installed each file directly to my Sims 3-->Mods folder, then extracted them separately using a Windows app into my Mods-->Packages folder. I noticed that the NRaas_Overwatch.package file is inside a yellow NRaas_Overwatch_V122 folder, while the Errortrap file is not in a file, just a package file by itself.
I started up the game, which took about 5 minutes to load, way longer than normal. I noticed that the Errortrap and Overwatch messages that I would normally see upon startup a couple years ago did not pop up. When I clicked on either Sim or City Hall, nothing that had to do with my mods came up. What did I do wrong?

Never mind, thanks anyway. Figured out the issue
  • That sounds a lot more complicated than it needed to be. You could probably tinker with this setup (and it would be a good idea to get a new resource.cfg regardless), but it's definitely simpler to rebuild your Mods folder from scratch. Here's how to recreate everything, but you can skip the redownloading of ET and OW if you want.

    • Trash the old Mods folder
    • Create a new Mods folder, and a Packages folder inside that
    • Go here: https://www.nraas.net/community/How-To-Install, crtl-F and search for "resource.zip"; download the file and let it save to Downloads or wherever you want it (but not inside your Sims 3 folder)
    • Right-click on resource.zip in your Downloads folder and select Extract (just use Windows's built-in tool)—you can choose to send it to Mods, or just extract in place and then drag and drop into Mods
    • Download ErrorTrap and Overwatch, and be sure to get the version of ErrorTrap that corresponds to your type of install: 1.67/disc, 1.67/Steam, and 1.69/Origin each have their own versions
    • Right-click on the ET and OW downloads, select Extract, send or drag and drop them into Mods\Packages
    • Delete scriptCache.package from your Sims 3 folder

Both ErrorTrap and Overwatch should be single .package files sitting directly in Packages; there's no need to nest either one inside another folder. There should not be any .zip files anywhere inside your Mods folder either.
  • Glad you got that sorted out. For others reading this, the instructions for installing mods are here, there is no need to make one's own Resource.cfg file.

For assistance with NRaas mods in particular, we are available on the NRaas forum boards. :)
  • @kwohld Could you explain how you sorted it out in case future simmers with the same problem come across this thread?
  • There are three and only three things that belong in the Mods folder.
    -- A subfolder called Packages
-- A subfolder called Overrides (usually empty)
    -- The required Resource.cfg file

That's it. The extracted .package files go into the Mods\Packages subfolder. It doesn't matter what method or combinations of extraction, decompressions, cut, copy, paste, drag and drop one uses to get them in there.
  • Ok I thought I had fixed it by putting the .package files in the mods folder (was confused as to which file they go in) but I was wrong. I decided to delete Origin cache and uninstall Origin and the mods folder, and start again. I'm going by some of the above links and I got lost.

"4. Download your desired mods listed in the left side menu, extract the (.package) files from the (.rar or .zip) files.
4.1- Use whatever program (i.e. WinRAR, WinZip, 7Zip) you normally use to extract the (.package) file for the Mod.
4.2- After you have the (.package) file extracted, cut/copy (whichever you prefer) then paste only the (.package) file into the Packages sub-folder."

Is this step telling me to go into the Overwatch and Errortrap zipped folders, and click 'Extract all" on the .package file (which is the only file in both each folder)? If so, do I extract it to Mods or Packages folder? And why is it telling me to cut the .package file right after extracting it? Aren't they virtually the same?
  • Simtown15- Yeah, I get a little caught up in the game when I haven't played it in a while. Since whatever I did didn't even work, I will make sure to post what ends up working for me this time.
