What you might be remembering (maybe?) is that we cannot mix installation types on the same computer, or at least not for the same user. But as the others have said, Steam always throws in the Origin codes for the base game and the EP/SPs with every purchase at no extra charge due to their longstanding agreement with EA for TS3 in particular.
