Fortunately, I haven't had many fires happen or the scoldings and fines, but it was annoying when it happened. Maybe if the firefighters didn't take so long to get there, there'd still be a fire for them to put out! As it is, I'm glad that many of my sims autonomously put the fires out, themselves. I've had some close calls, but no deaths.
I agree with @igazor...many of the authority figures in my game or more often than not, very incompetent. Firefighters, Police Officers, Baby-sitters. Okay, so baby-sitters aren't authority figures, but they're very useless in my game. I mean, when you're in the firefighter profession, your sim is the only one doing all of the work! The rest of them just stand around and order your sim around! No wonder they can't get to a fire in time!
