firefighter carreer in th sims 3

There's a few things that can sometimes help with this one.

-- Keep all of the fire alarms at the station 100% maintained.
-- Instead of hitting the built-in response commands, try finding out where the fire is in Map View and kind of sneak up on it (go there or to a place just outside of it normally, then respond by clicking on the fire itself or something like that).

-- Sometimes inactive sims manage to put out their own small house fires all by themselves before your firefighter can even react. If you stay with the career and advance up the levels by keeping everything in the firehouse maintained, eventually you should get larger fires and other disasters to respond to that don't disappear so quickly and for which the other sims in town really do need your help.

And some find that they just can't make that career work well for them because of things like this.

Yup, if you just stick with the career it will work through that period of time where the job gets cancelled out. It's disappointing that EA never sought to fix this, but in the end it is really only a short time where you have to deal with this and the rest of the career is a lot of fun after that. I like to have my sim bring over his family to visit sometimes and have a cookout while he is supposed to be working. Sometimes he just builds skills, sometimes focuses on training the family dog or just fill motives to be able to help out at home more after work. Hang in there, it really is a fun career and worth sticking through the rough patch.

Because of this forum I will give the firefighter career another chance. I've had this same problem that caused me to simply avoid this career for years and it was so disappointing cause this was my favorite career out of all ambition careers but based on what I'm hearing just stick it out and eventually I can start enjoying the jobs again I will create a new firefighter Sim tonight and expect the job to drop but hopefully around level 4 or 5 they will be able to start actually fighting fires instead of fighting to keep their jobs from dropping. Developing the athletic and handiness skill I believe helps getting promotions in the career so I'll remain faithful to that and hopefully see where it goes from there. I am returning to the world of Twinbrook so looking forward towards this beautiful southern like town. Love the swamps there too! And with seasons installed it only gets better!

Yes, higher level can solve this problem. So have a chat with coworkers, build your sim's Athletic and Handiness skill and use Handiness skill to upgrade firetrucks, because belive me, unupgraded firetruck is slow.

My sims always end up going into either the military or the firefighter careers(getting keys to Sunset Valley once from the mayor).Improving handiness and athletic skills worked well,even tho relationships with coworkers were bad. Wasn't until about career level 4(I think)that some major house fires and disasters at the school and hospital started appearing.One thing I remembered helped alot was having shower in a can and high quality food bites(from WA) during the large house fires so my sim didn't start howling she's soo hungry or oh too smelly to keep going.
