It can't 'go bad,' in any way that will make you sick. The white cast that chocolate gets after a while is natural and is called "bloom". (It's the waxy cocoa butter that causes it.)

Really cheap chocolate just turns powdery after a looong time, but again, it can't really hurt you. Dogs, on the other hand... :(
